Superheroes prompt gala for scouts’ 90 years
A SCOUT group is celebrating its 90th birthday with a gala.
The 1st Poynton Scout group is inviting families to come along to the event at its scout hut in Lawrence Place, Poynton, on September 20.
There will be activities for budding adventurers, young or old, and demonstrations of scouting skills such as how to build a campfire.
The group, which recently had a superherothemed camp trip, have a thriving membership 100 young people aged between six and 14.
They are supported by a dedicated team of adult and young leaders.
The group has close links with an Explorer unit in Poynton which meets in the same hut on a Thursday evening.
Group leader, Oliver Hardman, said: “It’s an honour to lead such an active group with so many committed leaders who give up their time willingly to attend the training and run the activities.
“Having been to beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers myself in this group it’s satisfying to give something back and watch members develop their skills and confidence.”
The gala is from 12pm on September 20.
