Guides enjoy bushtucker trials and tree climbing fun at camp
GIRLS from three Guiding units got to camp beneath the stars in a fun packed weekend with friends.
The 28 Guides from Poynton joined together to camp at Waddow Hall Campsite in Clitheroe.
The girls aged 10-12 cooked for themselves on altar fires, where the fire pit is raised above the ground.
They also took part in activities such as caving, canoeing, orienteering, swimming and a zipwire, and even scaled a 60ft tree as part of a tree climb activity.
The camp theme was ‘I’m a Guide get me out of here’ and along with their very own version of the bushtucker trials, the guides had to fish stars out of feely boxes and paddling pools full of nasties such as meal worms and hotdog sausages.
Eight of the girls also made their promise to become members of the unit while around the campfire, where Guides also performed their own skits.
All the girls gained their campers’ badge, with three gaining their ‘camper advance’.
Lyndsay Lamb from Poynton Guides said: “Everyone had an amazing time and learnt so many new skills. They certainly proved ‘This Girl Can’. Thanks to all the leaders who made it possible.”
