Youngsters offered ‘a brighter future’
YOUNG people are invited to sign up to a ‘life-changing’ course to equip them with skills for a brighter future.
The Prince’s Trust is the Prince of Wales’s charity which provides programmes to young people who are unemployed, out of education or face issues and are vulnerable. It aims to give them skills and confidence to find work or go into education and training.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has for nearly 20 years been working with the Prince’s Trust to run a programme for young people in Macclesfield.
The team at the fire service are looking for the next batch of recruits aged between 16 and 25 to sign up to the free 12 week course, to learn new skills, complete qualifications and gain greater self confidence.
Those who work on running the project say it’s a ‘life-changing’ opportunity.
Tamsen Lesko, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Prince’s Trust Project Co-ordinator, said: “We hope that through this programme we can help develop young people’s skills and confidence through practical community projects and work experience.
“Experience shows us that 80 per cent of all previous young people who have graduated from the programme have gone on to achieve things as a result.
“This includes getting back into or going forward into education or gaining employment and training.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has had a long partnership with Prince’s Trust and continues to see the benefits from the work it does.
John Walkey, Macclesfield Project Manager, said: “We are looking for young people who are not currently working or not in education who may need a bit of a boost to their confidence. “They may also lack motivation to develop skills that are crucial to them getting a job.
“If you think that this sounds like you then please phone the Macclesfield team for an informal chat.
“Alternatively, you may know someone in your family or a friend who you think might benefit from the programme.”
The course starts on Monday, September 28.
