Music tourists pull in crowds
A COMMUNITY band was thrilled to perform for more than a thousand people during their musical tour to Paris.
King Edward Musical Society (KEMS) Concert Band performed two shows in France in the Jardin du Luxembourg and a park behind Notre Dame Cathedral, with more than 500 people enjoying each of the performances.
The band, which is in its 11th year, was in Paris for a special musical tour and included 42 band members past and present plus friends and family.
Performing under the baton of Julia Harding, who has led the band for the past two years, they performed hits from shows including Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and Cats, jazz favourites by Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington, as well as classical pieces by Elgar and Bizet.
Kate Chappell, who plays the saxophone with the group, described the weekend as: “Totally epic band tour of Paris this weekend playing fab venues!”
KEMS Concert Band is a community wind band whose members range in age from late teens to 70 and above.
