THE Macclesfield and District Billiards League kicks off for its 21st season on Thursday, October 1.

As last year, seven teams will be competing in this “coming of age” season, with a second team from Sunderland Street Sporting Club coming in to fill the gap left by the unfortunate withdrawal of Mottram Village Club.

Last year’s league honours went to Disley Golf Club as champions for the first time, with the ever-competitive Sunderland Street as runners-up.

In the knockout cup final Sunderland Street triumphed over Silktown Snooker Centre.

The Tom Burgess individual knockout winner was Matt Furnival, who beat Andy Draper in a closely-fought final.

The Player of the Year award went to the popular Jim Hunt of Disley.

Any team or individual wishing to take part in the league should contact David Whalley (01625 266625), Geoffrey Yeomans (01663 763012) or Norman Routledge (01625 425783).
