POYNTON .................. 118-8 RUNCORN .................. 119-1

ANOTHER chastening defeat for Poynton saw Runcorn overhaul their modest target of 119 in just 17.2 overs.

Runcorn’s South African superstar Jarryd Phillips produced a blistering display of hitting, scoring 82 not out from 44 deliveries with 11 fours and one six, taking his runs total for the season to over 1,000.

Patrick Tyrrell’s composed 36 not out assisted Phillips’ more eye-catching knock, ensuring that the wicket Poynton took off the first ball of the innings was nothing more than a consolation.

With many players unavailable for a variety of reasons, this was always going to be a difficult day for Poynton, and the lack of strength in depth was evident as they failed to capitalise on a good position at 94-2.

Jack Wignall tied Poynton down with a tight opening spell, but Jake Haresnape and Damian Stringer were just starting to accelerate when wickets began to fall.
