●● THE Friends of Bolling­ton Tow­path will meet again this week­end to tidy up veg­e­ta­tion and im­prove the path.

Vol­un­teers work closely with the Canal and Rivers Trust to im­prove the tow­path and carry out a range of other tasks to keep it clear for walk­ers.

Re­cent work has in­cluded mak­ing safe and re­open­ing the steps from the tow­path at the Hurst Lane Bridge, re­pair­ing a dam­aged handrail and in­stalling a new bench on the tow­path near the top of Hurst Lane. They ti­died the over­grown veg­e­ta­tion and im­proved the walk­ing sur­face all the way along to Hawthorn Road and be­cause of their in­put the Canal and Rivers Trust has also done main­te­nance work.

The vol­un­teers usu­ally work on the sec­ond Sun­day of ev­ery month.

The next meet­ing is on Sun­day, Septem­ber 13, at 9.45am at the top of Hawthorn Road.

Ef­forts to main­tain the path helped Mac­cles­field Canal be­come the first ever canal to be awarded Keep Bri­tain Tidy’s cov­eted Green Flag Award – the mark of a qual­ity green space.
