Village growers turn on the style
HUNDREDS of people turned out to see prized pumpkins, marvellous marrows and tempting tomatoes at the Sutton village show.
Growers and makers showed off their creations at the event organised by Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club 49th Annual Flower and Vegetable Show.
A marquee was erected on nearby land owned by Peter and Jenny Barber on Spooners Flats, Hollin Lane.
Nearly 200 people dis- played 1,124 exhibits. Major winners on the day included Robert Jackson, Marshall Barnard and Norman Beech.
Robert Barnard, show secretary, said: “It was a really great effort for a village show making it much bigger than some town shows. There was a great turnout on the day.
“The show was a tremendous success and enjoyed by everyone who exhibited or simply attended.
“Floral art and children’s sections continue to grow really well - the imagination the children have is fantastic.”
Plans are underway for the 50th show on Sunday, September 4, next year.
Robert said: “Next year’s show is the golden anniversary so plans are underway to make the event bigger and better.”
