Teenager to take on legendary Gritstone Grind to help gran

Macclesfield Express - - SUTTON SHOW -

A BRAVE teenager is taking on a cross country running challenge inspired by his grandmother.

Jamie Hargreaves, 13, from Poynton, is running the legendary Gritstone Grind, a 36-mile trek from Disley to Kidsgrove.

His challenge is to complete the run in 12 hours.

Jamie, who attends Poynton High School, is aiming to raise as much money as he can for the Alzheimer’s Society as his sufferes from the condition.

Jamie won’t be taking on the serious challenge alone. He will be joined by his dad, Phill Hargreaves.

His proud mum Ali will be driving the support vehicle, keeping them fuelled up and giving them plenty of encouragement.

Ali said: “Jamie is really looking forward to the challenge. He has been training all summer long for this event.

“His dad is running with him and has found it hard to keep up sometimes during training.

“Originally, he wanted to run the Coast to Coast, but we managed to scale it down to the Gritstone way. I am sure he will run the Coast to Coast one day.”

The Gritstone Trail is renowned for some of the most stunning ridge walks and views over Cheshire.

Jamie is asking for those who can spare a few pounds to sponsor him.
