Alder­ley Edge four picked for Eng­land

THE suc­cess of Alder­ley Edge Hockey Club in de­vel­op­ing out­stand­ing hockey play­ers con­tin­ues with a record four girls be­ing picked to play for Eng­land at the Sains­bury’s School Games last week­end in Manch­ester.

Saskia Swat­land, Anna Perry, Sarah Jack­son and Claire Robin­son, who all play for the club’s first team, were se­lected af­ter a five-day camp in the sum­mer.

Anna and Saskia are both at Wilm­slow High School, Claire is at Fal­li­b­roome Academy and Sarah is at Chea­dle Hulme School.

The girls, who are all in Year 13 and have jug­gled their aca­demic stud­ies with their at­ten­dance at reg­u­lar train­ing camps, have all com­peted an ad­di­tional Ad­vanced Ap­pren­tice­ship in Sport­ing Ex­cel­lence in­volv­ing mod­ules on Sports Nutri­tion, Psy­chol­ogy and In­jury Preven­tion.

The Sains­bury’s School Games are one of the largest multi sports events to be held an­nu­ally in the world which for­tu­nately for the girls was in Manch­ester.

The na­tion’s top young ath­letes from 12 sports in­clud­ing cy­cling, swimming, ath­let­ics and hockey came to­gether in both able and dis­abled events to com­pete against each of the Home Na­tions.

Us­ing venues es­tab­lished from the legacy of The Com­mon­wealth Games it was an in­cred­i­ble op­por­tu­nity for all the ath­letes to com­pete in such a large event with over 1600 ath­letes all stay­ing in an ath­lete vil­lage.
