Alderley Edge four picked for England
THE success of Alderley Edge Hockey Club in developing outstanding hockey players continues with a record four girls being picked to play for England at the Sainsbury’s School Games last weekend in Manchester.
Saskia Swatland, Anna Perry, Sarah Jackson and Claire Robinson, who all play for the club’s first team, were selected after a five-day camp in the summer.
Anna and Saskia are both at Wilmslow High School, Claire is at Fallibroome Academy and Sarah is at Cheadle Hulme School.
The girls, who are all in Year 13 and have juggled their academic studies with their attendance at regular training camps, have all competed an additional Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence involving modules on Sports Nutrition, Psychology and Injury Prevention.
The Sainsbury’s School Games are one of the largest multi sports events to be held annually in the world which fortunately for the girls was in Manchester.
The nation’s top young athletes from 12 sports including cycling, swimming, athletics and hockey came together in both able and disabled events to compete against each of the Home Nations.
Using venues established from the legacy of The Commonwealth Games it was an incredible opportunity for all the athletes to compete in such a large event with over 1600 athletes all staying in an athlete village.
