Kerridge lose but secure third tier slot

Macclesfield Express - - SEARCH - ADAM BANKS

IN the last home game of the 2015 season Kerridge welcomed Hartford to Clarke Lane and, in a enjoyable, well spirited game, lost by six wickets.

Hartford, who are pushing for a promotion spot, are still unbeaten this term, so maybe the result was not too much of a shock.

The visitors electing to field first upon winning the toss.

Opening duo Ste Regan and Alan Harbige took the score to 40 for the first wicket before Regan was caught for 19.

Once again the fragile middle order failed to deliver and wickets began to tumble regularly with only Harbige offering any resistance, taking the home side into the 90s before eventually falling for a gutsy 38.

Kerridge were all out for 111 in the 41st over. Pattisappu (4/20) and Pam (3/32) did the damage with the ball for the visitors.

With a small total on the board and Hartford having a strong top order, early wickets were needed and when Adam Banks (1/14) bowled Sharp for just nine runs on the board had got off to the start they hoped.

With the score now into the 40s Tom Gaskell (1/23) claimed the second wicket, bowling Boyle.

However, Whittle, batting at two, dug in and although being stumped off the bowling of Alex Grimes for 49, had put Hartford in a dominant position.

Grimes struck again having Pickup snared leg before to finish with 2/52 but with such a small total, skipper Hodgkinsons’ 35 not out finished the job to secure a 20-point victory and a foot in the door for promotion to division two in 2016.

Kerridge did, however, take the points they required to guarantee their place in the third tier again next year after an up and down season.

Kerridge travel to local side Pott Shrigley for the season finale on Saturday, looking to finish the year on a high note.
