Under 8s complete Festival at Macc
MACCLESFIELD Cricket Club finally completed their Under 8s Cricket Festival at the Victoria Road Ground last weekend after rain originally spoiled the party last month.
The Finals Day Group winners were Prestbury, Brooklands, Macclesfield Silks and Macclesfield Lions, with each team putting in impressive performances over the course of the tournament.
More than 100 young cricketers from around Cheshire descended on Macclesfield Cricket Club, with teams from Ashley, Sandbach, Bredbury, Prestbury, Poynton, Brooklands and Macclesfield all playing for the Peter Mannion Trophies.
The festival is now in its second year, with each team playing to the basic rules of Sixers cricket (six ball overs, six overs, six players).
This was a unique development opportunity for young, budding cricketers of ages six, seven and eight.
The quality of the cricket from the youngsters was superb, with each game witnessing accurate bowling, cleanly bowled wickets, tricky catches and plenty of fours and sixes.
Macclesfield CC hopes that both new and closer links have been established with local clubs, and plans to arrange many more tournaments and fixtures in the future.
The club would like to thank the volunteers for their time and support during the tournament, as well and the sponsors Complete Money and Chrome Motors for their generosity.
If you’re interested in learning the fun game of cricket and joining a team, please contact your local club and enquire into their academy.
Winter nets typically run from January to April, and summer nets from April through to the end of the summer.
