Rooney opens doors to his home
PRESTBURY-RESIDENT Wayne Rooney is to welcome TV cameras into his home for a BBC documentary.
The Manchester United striker will feature in a behind-the-scenes one-off special, presented by Gary Lineker, called ‘Rooney – The Man Behind the Goals’ will be shown on BBC One at 9pm on Monday, October 5.
Rooney became England’s all-time top goalscorer in England’s 2-0 win over Switzerland and in doing so eclipsed Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record, with Lineker in third.
The star will join his family on screen for a tell-all look into his life in the spotlight, at home on Withinlee Road and at Old Trafford to create a personal portrait of the man behind the footballer.
The England and United captain said: “I have been approached many times about allowing the cameras into our lives and always said no. But now seems the right time. This film is not just about my goals, it’s about the people I care about the most, my team mates, the people closest to me but most importantly, my family.”
Viewers will get to see Rooney’s journey from his humble beginnings in Liverpool, to meeting and marrying his wife Coleen to having his two sons Kai and Klay, with a third child on the way as he approaches his 30th birthday on October 24.
Rooney will offer his thoughts on his career, home life and his future in football, while his parents, former and current managers and other significant figures such as Sven Goran Eriksson, David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Louis van Gaal, Jamie Carragher, Roy Hodgson, David Moyes and Sir Bobby Charlton will all feature in interviews.
Gary Lineker, added: “I think that our film will allow the public to discover the real Wayne Rooney.
“It’s been great spending time with him and the whole Rooney family.
“Remember also that Wayne is still only 29, he could push this record considerably higher yet.”
