Spreading the word about killer condition

Macclesfield Express - - CHARITY ROUND-UP -

STAFF at Macclesfield Hospital have been working hard to raise awareness about the life-threatening condition sepsis.

Sepsis arises when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs, and can lead to shock, multiple organ failure and death, especially if not recognised early and treated promptly.

A stand in the hospital reception included staff on hand to offer advice, information and education on how to spot, stop and beat sepsis.

Members of the trust’s recently-formed Sepsis Steering Group have also been selling cakes with proceeds going towards internal sepsis-related resources.

Dr Micayla Telfer, based at the hospital, said: “The Sepsis Steering Group involves clinical expert leads and has been set up to drive the sepsis campaign forward.

“The aim of the group is to develop, shape and advance sustainable best practice. The trust’s ‘Sepsis 6 Care Bundle’ remains a key tool in screening for sepsis and aiding the timeliness of identification, screening and treating the septic patient.”
