JOHN Askey believes his Macclesfield Town players are better than any other team in the division when they perform at their best.

Macc picked up their biggest win of the season when they emphatically defeated league leaders Forest Green Rovers 4-1 on Saturday.

It was only the second time that the top of the table side have suffered defeat during this campaign, and Askey thinks his team are capable of replicating that display every week.

“The players need to keep believing in themselves and realising that they have just as much ability as anybody in the league, if not more,” he said.

“We’ve been playing well all season but haven’t been able to get the goals, so it was pleasing that managed to get four on Saturday.

“The team has been doing some good work in training and it came to fruition against the top of the league team, so I can’t ask for any more.”

Macclesfield had to come from behind in the match, and Askey praised his team for their resiliency.

“We couldn’t have had a worse start to the match but thankfully Kristian Dennis is a typical goal scorer and he got us back in the game,”
