Leif in memory lane hunt for penpal Eileen
A NORWEGIAN pensioner is trying to trace his childhood pen pal.
Leif Harvik, 85, wants to track down his old friend Eileen Robinson and her family who lived in Macclesfield.
Leif and Eileen were pen pals when they were teenagers and he visited the town about 65 years ago.
He stayed with her family for several weeks and even worked at H & L Slater paper mill, where Eileen’s father, Arthur, was managing director.
But when Leif returned to Norway he changed his surname to Dubard and lost touch with the family.
Last weekend Leif returned to Macclesfield with his son-in-law Asbjorn and granddaughter Maria, 19, for a trip down memory lane.
They visited Macclesfield library where they found pictures of Eileen’s father and Leif hopes to rekindle his friendship with the Robinsons.
Asbjorn said: “Leif has many happy memories from his time in Macclesfield. He would love to be reunited with Eileen, her brother David, or any of their family. All he knows is that Eileen later studied law in Manchester and got married, but he doesn’t know her surname.”
