Lions cruise to win against Waterloo

MAC­CLES­FIELD’S sec­ond team, the Lions, en­ter­tained Waterloo, one of the re­main­ing three un­beaten teams in the Bate­man Premier­ship League and ran out easy win­ners.

The Lions hand­i­capped them­selves with an early yel­low card but still man­aged to score dur­ing this pe­riod with the lively Thorp cross­ing the white­wash with the con­ver­sion added by S Sher­atte.

The first half ended with the Lions lead­ing Waterloo 19-6.

Fol­low­ing the break Lions re­sumed the game is a far more de­ter­mined fash­ion and pro­duced some of the best rugby of the sea­son to date with backs and for­wards link­ing to­gether to pro­duce some ex­cit­ing play that brought a fur­ther six tries.

Debu­tant Char­lie Ven­ables scored twice – one a length of the field ef­fort – while there were fur­ther scores from Walker, Burke, El­liot and fi­nally Thorpe with S Sher­atte con­vert­ing five of these.

Next week the Lions are away against Sale FC.
