We can see off Pompey insists hitman Dennis
MACCLESFIELD Town forward Kristian Dennis insists his side are more than capable of defeating Portsmouth in the FA Cup this weekend.
The Silkmen have enjoyed success in the competition in recent years, having reached the third round back in 2014 before they were knocked out by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
Portsmouth were eliminated in round one by National League opposition last season after Aldershot Town won 1-0 in a replay.
With that in mind, Dennis believes the magic of the cup will be on display at Fratton Park on Saturday.
“We’re all excited for the match and it’s the FA Cup so as well all know, anything can happen.” He said.
“We will go there confident and will try and take all of the chances that we get, so we’ll see what happens.”
Dennis was disappointed that his Macclesfield side came up short against Braintree last week, especially in the circumstances it came in.
“They didn’t really cause us any problems but games like that happen so we will just have to keep our heads up and go again vs Portsmouth,” he said.
We’re always creating chances and we had quite a few opportunities. A few of them fell to me and I think I should have scored.”
Dennis has been Macc’s main source of goals this season, having netted 10 times in the league since the start of the season.
The rest of the Silkmen team only have 15 goals between them, and Dennis is glad to have new signing Reece Styche in the team.
“At the minute it’s only me fit upfront so with Styche coming in it takes a bit of pressure off,” he said.
“We know have another striker there who can hopefully score a few goals and get us up the league.
“We’ve got quite a few of our other players coming back now too. Neill Byrne has been in training, Paul Lewis came on last week and Chris Holroyd started so I think everybody will be fit within the next couple of weeks and we should be alright going into the Christmas period.”
