Fireworks and a band for big lights switch on
THE town’s Christmas lights will burst into life on Saturday, November 28, with a festive celebration in the Market Place.
The newly-formed Macclesfield Town Council will take charge of this year’s Christmas switch-on with plans for a grand firework display, a Christmas market, street performers, choirs and a brass band.
Macclesfield Town Mayor and councillor Liz Durham will have the honour of turning on the lights with Father Christmas.
Coun Durham said: “It’s going to be a great event, celebrating our first year as Macclesfield Town Council.
“It should be a great atmosphere and a great way to start the Christmas season. It will be fun for all the family.”
The lights will be switched on at 4.30pm.
There will be food and drink available from the Christmas Market and festive gift ideas at the Christmas Crafts Fayre in the town hall.
Drivers should be aware that Market Place, Castle Street, Churchside and Church Street will be closed off to vehicles from 8am on the day of the event.
Mill Street and Chestergate will also be partially closed.
