Former Macc Town foot­baller dies aged 74

A FOOT­BALLER who ended his ca­reer at Mac­cles­field Town FC has died at the age of 74.

David Shawcross made 47 ap­pear­ances for Manch­ester City from 1958-65, play­ing at wing half for the club.

Dur­ing a 15-year ca­reer, Shawcross played for a num­ber of other clubs af­ter he left the Blues in­clud­ing Stock­port County, Hal­i­fax Town, Al­trin­cham and Mac­cles­field Town.

The former wing half was a squad mem­ber along­side such no­table City play­ers as Bert Traut­mann, Johnny Hart, Ken Barnes, Alan Oakes and Neil Young.

Shawcross lived in Hazel Grove and fin­ished off his ca­reer with Mac­cles­field in 1973
