-

A BROWNIE group is celebrating after receiving hundreds of pounds from a supermarket.

The 1st Poynton Brownies (St George’s) unit were handed £410 from Waitrose in Poynton through its Community Matters Green Token scheme.

The leaders plan to use the cash to fund some of the many activities the girls do.

They will also fund some of the celebrations as the unit marks its 90th birthday next year.

Shirley Ross, guider of 1st Poynton Brownies, said: “The money we have received from Waitrose is outstanding and we, as a unit, are really pleased to receive such a sum of money.

“We are a very active unit and the money will certainly help us continue to provide a varied programme for all the Brownies to enjoy.

“Next year the Brownie unit will be celebrating the 90th birthday of the unit, and we shall use some of the money to enjoy this achievement.”

The girls, who are aged seven to 10 years, meet every Thursday at St George’s Church Hall from 6.15pm to 7.45pm.
