Revamp for Heritage Way
VOLUNTEERS have been working hard to create a mini oasis on the edge of the town centre.
The site, which has an entrance at the roundabout opposite B&Q on Churchill Way, has been under the care of food group Food4Macc for the past five years.
They have been busy planting fruit bushes, bulbs and cleared the area of leaves as part of their role to have more food produced in the Macclesfield area.
Now the threat of losing the space to the town centre redevelopment plan has been withdrawn, they have joined forces with Macclesfield Guild and Chamber of Trade, and Macclesfield RSPB, to resurface ‘Heritage Way’, the pathway through to the town centre garden.
Alan Brereton, from Food4Macc, said: “The walkway would have disappeared at the back of Debenhams had the old Wilson Bowden scheme gone ahead, but that shouldn’t affect us now so we’ve be able to put some money into it.
“It’s a nice green space in the centre of Macc. We don’t have many of those so it’s important.”
To join Food4Macc and help maintain the area, go along to Heritage Walk on Tuesday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm.
