Ox pub given new lease of life
ONE of the town’s best known watering holes has a received a facelift to herald the arrival of new managers.
Claire Morton and Jon Ellershaw took over The Ox-Fford on Oxford Road five months ago.
Between them the couple have managed pubs for 23 years all over the country.
But now the pair have pledged to settle down in Macclesfield and make a go of it at The Ox-Fford.
The pub was recently bought by pub company Junction Leisure Ltd from brewery Marston’s.
It closed for a week while Claire and Jon and a team of contractors completed a round the clock refurbishment.
As well as redecorating, there is new flooring and a new bar.
The pub now also has a pie and mash menu featuring Pieminster pies. As you would expect there will be a full range of craft and cask beers.
Jon, 41, who originally hails from Birkenhead, said: “For almost 20 years I have run pubs all over, Sheffield, London, and Framlingham, which is famous because its where the singer Ed Sheeran comes from.
“Claire and I were offered the chance to come to Macclesfield and were took it. We didn’t know anything about the town when we arrived six months ago.
“We worked at the Old Millstone and then the Crown in Bollington.
“About five months ago we took over the Ox-Fford and we love it and want to stay. It has been great to give the pub a facelift so we feel we can put our own mark on it.
“We want it to be the heart of the community and would encourage people to come down and say hello if they’ve not done it before.”
Claire, 21, added: “The Ox’s new look really reflects our desire to sell great food and beer.
“We’re passionate about pubs, craft beers and proper pies.
“The Ox now allows our customers to enjoy those things in a cracking pub with a modern twist.”
