Marathon fundraisers hand over cash to hospice bed appeal
THE team behind this year’s Macclesfield Half Marathon have presented a cheque for £6,000 to East Cheshire Hospice.
More than 650 runners pounded the streets for this year’s race which took place in September for the 14th time from Macclesfield Leisure Centre, along with a 5k course and fun run. It was organised by a team of 130 marshals from Macclesfield Harriers.
Runners were taking part this year in aid of East Cheshire Hospice, which cares for patients from Macclesfield and towns in the area and needs thousands of pounds each day to operate. Money raised will help towards an appeal at the hospice to buy 17 replacement beds.
Now representatives from the half marathon have presented the hospice with a cheque for £6,000.
Neil Gunn, from Macclesfield Harriers, said: “All the hard work by everybody involved with the 2015 Macclesfield Half Marathon and 5k paid off as we presented a cheque for £6,000 to East Cheshire Hospice.
“A very big thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, runners and supporters.
“This year’s race was a fantastic day and now to start planning for the 2016 race.”
