MACCLESFIELD Boys’ Boxing Club enjoyed another successful night when they were recently in action at Corbridge Coranation Club in Stoke.

Out again in his second bout in as many weeks for MBBC was young Zac Jones, who this time was going up against Rhys Rafferty of the hosts club Stoke Staffs ABC.

Round one saw both boxers touch gloves and it was clear that they were of same build and this only boosted young Jones’ confidence as he proceeded to step in and throw the shots.

He then began to move more like a seasoned pro than an 11-year-old, but the home crowd cheered for Rafferty and he had some success as Jones occasionally walked in to a jab or a backhand.

The second round saw Jones grow in confidence even more as he showed his boxing ability to the baying crowd who weren’t happy about their home fighter being schooled.

Round three was by far Jones’ best round and as Rafferty wilted, Jones turned it up and though the Stoke boxer gave it his best right up to the final bell, there was only one conclusion to this bout and that was Jones as the victor.

It surprisingly came by split decision but it was a win nonetheless on away soil against a home fighter.
