MACCLESFIELD 1st team played Bowden in torrential rain, causing many of the other teams fixtures to be postponed.

The weather conditions proved very testing in an already tough match. Macc were held to a 1-1 draw in the home fixture earlier in the season.

Macclesfield were unsettled for the first few minutes, but were then able to create some fast-flowing passing moves.

This forced Bowden deep into their own half, the pressure resulting in a penalty corner which Barlow converted.

Sarah Duffy then doubled the lead after shooting from an acute angle and nutmegging the keeper.

The Macc defence remained tight and the second half brought more of the same, fluent passing this time enabling O’Connor to pounce on a pass into the D, which made the scoreline 3-0.

Lots of missed chances followed until another corner was converted by Emma Houghton on the far post to make it four.

As persistent as the rain, Bowden came back to score with only minutes left on the clock to deny Macc a clean sheet.
