Singer on a high after radio premiere
A SINGER-SONGWRITER is hoping for a bright future after her radio premiere was championed by Terry Wogan.
Megan Dixon Hood, 21, from Macclesfield, wrote and self-released a piano ballad entitled ‘Early Morning Riser’, which broadcaster Terry Wogan picked to play as the penultimate song on his BBC Radio 2 show, Weekend Wogan.
On the show Sir Terry, who chooses the work of an up and coming artist to highlight at the end of his appearance, introduced Megan’s song as ‘an exclusive first play on national radio, in fact the whole universe!’ and joked about the song’s title, saying: “Early Morning Riser, I was one of those once.”
Megan, who now lives in Congleton, said she was thrilled to be championed by the DJ.
She said: “A radio producer recommended my song to Terry Wogan’s producer who played it to Terry. It was very last minute that we knew it happening – I listened to the whole two hours and it was played right at the very end, but I was so excited I talked all the way through the intro!”
Megan will next perform supporting blues and soul singer Rag ‘n’ Bone Man in Manchester on January 29.
