LAST Tuesday’s 4-0 victory against Ashton United at the Moss Rose saw Macclesfield Town progress to the next stage of the FA Trophy where they will face Truro City.

Goals from Kristian Dennis, Paul Lewis and Danny Whitehead were enough to ease past the Robins and book their place in the second round of the competition.

The Silkmen put on a terrific performance in front of their home fans and manager John Askey says it was an important result to pick up for many reasons.

He said: “It’s important that we put a performance on because we did let ourselves down in the game that was postponed so I’m pleased to get a clean sheet again and progress into the next round.

“It could be vitally important to the club financially if we can progress as far as we can as that money could bring two or three players in.”

Askey added: “We passed the ball well and I thought the movement was good, that’s something we’ve talked about.

“The players created quite a few chances so it gives us confidence.”
