Ella is among top three
A TALENTED tennis player is celebrating after her team was crowned third best in the country.
Twelve-year-old Ella Walker, from Macclesfield, has been playing tennis since she was seven.
She was part of the team which came third in the AEGON tennis National Finals, held at Bolton Arena.
The tournament started in May last year, with more than 600 school tennis teams from across the country taking part.
Having won the north regional section in Sunderland in late November, the team from Manchester High School for Girls sailed through to the national competition in Bolton where they took bronze in a nail biting final against Bedford Girls School.
Ella, who trains at Lancashire Health and Racquet club for eight hours a week, said: “I was really happy for everyone in our team, it’s been a long tournament but well worth it! I play at national and regional level outside of school but it was special to achieve a national medal with my school friends.”
Ella hopes to play professionally in the future.
Ella’s PE teacher Miss Kelly said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the girls and it is the first time Manchester High has reached the national final. I have been blown away with the standard of our girls’ tennis. The competition has been an amazing experience for them and they truly deserve their success.”
