●● MART Rodger and Manch­ester Jazz will be back play­ing at the Poyn­ton Le­gion Club on Ge­orge’s Road West from this month.

From Jan­uary 18 the band will be there on the third Mon­day of each month start­ing at 7.30pm. En­trance is £6. Fu­ture dates in­clude Fe­bru­ary 15, March 21 and April 18. ●● THE Mar­i­onette The­atre Com­pany will present its pro­duc­tion Win­ter Strings at the Civic Hall on Satur­day Jan­uary 16 at 2pm.

The mem­bers, who range from pri­mary school age chil­dren to pen­sion­ers, have been in­volved in de­sign­ing, de­vel­op­ing and per­form­ing for this 10-act va­ri­ety show.

Tick­ets are £4.50 and £3.50 for con­ces­sions.

The tra­di­tional Gaelic dance and mu­sic event will fea­ture per­for­mances from Tum­bling Tom, Fiona Rigg and Les Ord.

It runs from 8pm to 11.30pm.

Ge­orge Ec­cle­ston will speak to the group about Robert Burns: His Life and Loves on Jan­uary 14, while Sheila Dale will speak on The Ed­die Sto­bart Story.

The men’s group meets at St Ge­orge’s Church Hall in Poyn­ton at 2pm ev­ery week.

They have speak­ers on the 2nd and 4th Thurs­day of the month at 2pm. ●● PLANS have been sub­mit­ted to Cheshire East Coun­cil for a rear ex­ten­sion at Birch­side, Tow­ers Road.
