I would spend my ideal day rescuing animals
Name: Rachel White. Which organisation are you involved with?: RSPCA Macclesfield, South East Cheshire and Buxton branch. My position with the charity is communications officer but I also foster dogs and small animals. How did you become a volunteer?: After losing my own dog of 11 years to cancer, I decided I wasn’t quite ready to get another dog yet – I looked into fostering and thought it would be a perfect way to still have the company of a dog, but without the big commitment. I didn’t realise that it would change my life in the way it has – and all for the better. What is your favourite place in Macclesfield?: Teggs Nose. How long have you been involved with the charity for?: Since October 2013. What special skills do you need to have?: Compassion, patience and most of all – love. What are your hobbies and interests?: Rescue work takes up the majority of my spare time, but I also love music – going to gigs, spending time with my friends and family, travelling when I have the chance. Ideally how would you spend every day?: Rescuing more animals. What was the best holiday you have been on?: Italy – Florence and Pisa with my mum, the place (and food) was incredible. If money were no object what would you do?: Open my own rescue centres worldwide.
What one piece of advice would you give?: Adopt and be a voice for the voiceless. What was your first job?: Sales assistant in The Body Shop in Macclesfield town centre. What is on your stereo?: Rock, heavy metal, jazz, soul and blues. What is your favourite TV show?: Sons of Anarchy. What are you reading at the moment?: Jeffery Deaver, The Bone Collector. What is your biggest inspiration?: My parents. Who would you like to invite to dinner?: Noel Fitzpatrick (The Supervet). What has been your most memorable / funniest experience while you have been volunteering in this role?: Looking back at all of the animals’ lives we have made a difference for – it’s the most rewarding feeling in the world. Nothing beats a rescued animal’s smile.
