Silkmen duo earn special praise

Macclesfield Express - - SPORT -

JOHN Askey felt that Ritchie Branagan and Jack Sampson were the standout performers during Macclesfield Town’s 1-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers.

Branagan made a number of fine saves after replacing the injured Shwan Jalal, while Sampson got the only goal of the match.

“Ritchie was a bit shaky when he first went on but once he settled down he performed heroics and I thought he was fantastic,” said Askey.

“I was really pleased because he works his socks off every day in training and never moans, so if anyone deserves a performance like that then it’s him, and it’s up to Ritchie now to stay in the team.

“Jack played really well too and has been a good outlet for us, so we hope that now gives him the confidence to go on and get many more goals.”

Kristian Dennis was unable to keep up his fine run of form after failing to find the net, but Askey was still happy with his showing.

“Kristian didn’t score but he had a hard task on his own up front, and I thought he worked very hard,” he said. “There will be other games where we have more of the ball and that’s where Kristian will come into his own.”

Meanwhile, Macclesfield have announced that Jalal and defender David Fitzpatrick have both signed contract extensions at the club.
