Po­lice warn­ing af­ter Land Rover thefts

PO­LICE have urged res­i­dents to be vig­i­lant of thieves tar­get­ing Land Rovers af­ter a theft in a ru­ral area.

A red Land Rover De­fender was stolen from a drive­way in the Ped­ley Hill area of Rainow in Mac­cles­field.

Of­fi­cers have warned res­i­dents to be ex­tra vig­i­lant about thieves tar­get­ing the 4x4 ve­hi­cles which they say are be­com­ing sought af­ter.

Sgt He­len Per­ci­val, from Mac­cles­field Neigh­bour­hood Polic­ing Unit, said: “There’s been an in­crease in Land Rovers be­ing stolen na­tion­ally and we urge peo­ple that have Land Rovers or live in ru­ral ar­eas to be ex­tra vig­i­lant.

“There has been a spate of in­ci­dents in the Rainow area in re­cent days in­clud­ing a theft of power tools and a theft from a car so we urge peo­ple to keep an eye out for any­thing sus­pi­cious.

“Please leave keys where they can’t be viewed through your let­ter­box, even when at home.

“Be sure to keep ve­hi­cles se­cure and ring us with any in­for­ma­tion.”

The Land Rover was stolen be­tween around 5pm on Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 6 and 10am on Thurs­day, Jan­uary 7.
