●● CHESHIRE Police and Crime Commissioner has launched a public consultation proposing a rise in council tax. (The consultation runs until tomorrow (January 14). Go to www.cheshirepcc.gov.uk/Home.aspx Mick Greenall: If I was paying an extra 10p I would like to see more police on foot instead of sitting in cars. Why can’t they park in villagers and walk around? It would make people feel a bit more safe. Harry William Andrew Muskett: Paying for police is like paying to help the poor – money is given but you see no product once money has been paid. Barbara Allen: I would willingly pay an extra 10p IF more police were guaranteed. Nick Mannion: If we swept away the unnecessary additional cost and bureaucracy of the commissioner, how many extra hours of policing out on patrol could that generate? Mel Pearson: 10p isn’t too much, but there would be absolutely no guarantees that it would give us more police on the streets. Pete Watson: How about the top dogs take a slight pay cut and use that to fund extra policing instead of taking even more of people on low salaries funding everything. Vince Wright: Then I’m sure all the tax avoiding corporations won’t mind paying it then.... ●● LOTS of our readers have something to say about Kings School’s planning application in Prestbury (website) Graham N Jayne Rayner: The traffic on Fence Avenue will be much worse if they build 300 homes on green belt land. Disgraceful should not be allowed. Danny Hunter: If the housing stops idiots flying down Buxton Road putting children at risk then I’m all for it. Alex Lawton Truswell Esq: I doubt it will Carole Poyser: This town does not need more houses, the country is sinking as it is, we need green areas and such like. Sue Nicholls: Back in the day when Macc High School was on Fence Avenue the traffic was nowhere near as bad as it is now at certain times of the day in term time. That’s because we walked and/or got public transport to school. And a lot of the girls lived way out of town. Can you imagine what a school twice the size near Prestbury crossroads will do for the traffic situation there? However losing the school on Fence Ave and replacing it with houses isn’t going to do anything to improve the amount of traffic. Then of course there is the King’s School site which has similar plans in an even busier spot.......enough said. Sharon Pollard: I can’t imagine what will happen if Kings build on that greenbelt, it’s already gridlocked every morning with school traffic, Prestbury Road is a nightmare now! ●● MANY of you were excited to see Macclesfield feature on Michael Portillo’s Great British Railway Journeys (website) Jenny Baker-Griffiths: Looking forward to watching this as my hubby is from Macclesfield, and I love the history of this wonderful town. Richard Elkin: I met Michael Portillo in York in 2014 when he was filming for a show in York, he really is as nice as he appears on the show! This is my favourite show on transport you learn so much about each area he visits! Russ Machin: I bought Bradshaw’s guide after watching this. Hayley Priest: Very excited to watch this!! I recognise those purple cushions. William Barnett: Love this show.
