Crook jailed after theft from tennis club
A THIEF has been jailed after breaking into Prestbury Tennis Club.
Brian Anthony Leonard, 39, stole £76 from the club between 10pm on Monday, January 11, and 8am on Tuesday, January 12.
Leonard, of Renfrew Close, Macclesfield, appeared in front of magistrates in Crewe on Wednesday, January 13, where he admitted two counts of theft and was jailed for a total of 20 weeks. Steve Pearson, groundsman at Prestbury Tennis Club, said: “It must have been about 11pm on the Monday night.
“The thief prised the back door open and broke into two of the meters, stealing the coins inside, before being disturbed by the security light. He was later arrested in the village by police.”
A police spokesman said: “Prestbury Village Lawn Tennis Club, on Bollin Grove, was broken into by damaging the rear door. The meter boxes for the floodlights on courts two and three were emptied of coins.” The second charge related to the theft of £13 worth of meat from the Co-op on Bromley Road in Congleton on January 1.
