Council among best for roadworks information
THE council has scooped a national award for keeping people informed about roadworks
Cheshire East Council’s highways team won the accolade for ‘best use of a new technology in the highways industry’ at the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards, for its use of Elgin’s Traffic Management app to plan, co-ordinate and publicise roadworks.
The council has seen an increase in the number of permits for roadworks being processed, meaning there is a greater need for up-to-date information for residents and drivers.
The highways department uses the Elgin app to ensure closures and diversion routes are instantly displaced on the website roadworks.org, so drivers can plan their journeys in advance.
Coun David Brown, the council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for highways, said: “Keeping people informed about roadworks on our busy and extensive network is essential and this tool is making it easier for them to plan their journeys throughout the borough.
“We place a high priority on keeping local people and visitors informed and on working to keep our traffic flowing freely and safely with as little disruption as possible.”
