Macclesfield Express - - BEFORE THE BENCH -

A GROUP that promotes growing your own food will hold one of its biggest sales yet at the town’s next Treacle Market on Sunday, January 31.

Voluntary organisation Food4Macc will set up shop inside the town hall – thanks to a community grant from Macclesfield council – with almost 100 varieties of seed potatoes, different fruit bushes and trees, onion sets, flowering bulbs, and a wide range of packeted seeds.

Last year the event attracted more than 500 people and the group is hoping to attract even more with a bigger range of items this year.

Organiser Colin Townend said: “We were really pleased to have helped so many Macclesfield gardeners get the seeds and plants they needed last year.

“Combining with the Treacle Market makes for an outing all the family can enjoy. There’s a form on our website – Food4Macc.org – so customers can reserve items in advance and collect on the day.”

The group will also offer support to school food growing projects.

The market opens at 10am.
