Train for free to be a carer and friend for the elderly

Macclesfield Express - - CHARITY ROUND-UP -

HOME Instead Senior Care, which provides care for the elderly in their own homes, has announced the release of 30 free new year training places for care givers as demand for care services spirals.

The Macclesfield branch is looking for people to come forward and be trained to provide support for the older generation and help them to remain independent and living at home.

An ageing population coupled with cuts to local social care budgets has led to an imbalance.

This means more people are now needed to provide care which will enable elderly people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

Speaking about the need to train more staff, Lesley Wright, the recruitment and retention officer at Home Instead East Cheshire, based in Macclesfield, said: “The impact of a national shortage of carers is being felt locally and is creating problems for the elderly in particular.

“In 2016 it’s time to care. That’s why we have just released 30 training places for people who wish to work in the care sector.

“Our service is companionship-based, so people don’t need to have experience. What’s really important is that people have the right attitude and a caring and empathetic nature.

“The service we offer is focused on providing much-needed company and social stimulation to elderly people as well, of course, as more traditional care services.

“We match clients and care givers based on shared interests and, following initial induction training, our care givers receive additional training based on the individual needs of the clients they are matched to.”

On completion of their initial training, care givers will become eligible to receive the nationally recognised Care Certificate and can go on to develop their skills with additional qualifications if they wish, such as Home Instead’s Alzheimer’s Care Training Programme.

Lesley added: “Our award-winning service is provided by a fabulous team of dedicated, caring and compassionate individuals, all of whom are passionate about making a difference to our clients’ lives.”

Anyone interested in applying for one of Home Instead’s training places should call Lesley on 01625 860992 or visit www.homein eastcheshire.
