Tree-mendous effort by army of helpers!
AN army of volunteers helped make the East Cheshire Hospice Christmas tree collection the biggest and best in its 16-year history.
More than £73,000 has been raised so far after 6,630 trees – an eight per cent increase on last year – were collected from homes across the eastern parts of Cheshire during the massive two-day operation.
More than 40 vans and around 250 volunteers took part in the collection, which covered a record 2,070 roads.
Co-organiser Richard Raymond said: “There was a fantastic spirit and the organisers would like to thank everyone who made a donation and helped in so many different ways.
“It’s the hospice’s largest fundraising event of the year and amazing to think that 20 other hospices held tree collections which were all spawned out of the East Cheshire model but this is the biggest and best!
“It was wet and cold but everyone helped make it such a great event, whether it was baking cakes, collecting trees, handling logistics or making those allimportant donations.”
Organisers are keen to thank sponsors Cheshire Vehicle Rentals which generously supplied more than half the vehicle fleet, Astra Zeneca, FDR Law, Arighi Bianchi, Ashfield Healthcare Communications, LoveLive Graphics and many other local businesses.
Special thanks go also to Ansa Environmental Services which helped grind trees into mulch at its West Park HQ before being mixed into compost for recycling.
