I’ve always had Great Expectations for talented sisters
I’M enjoying the BBC’s epic serial Dickensian as it offers the chance to enjoy all the great Dickens characters in one series. There are lots of recognisable actors appearing at various times and I was pleased to spot Mrs Cratchit being played by Jennifer Hennessy, well known from her appearances in Dr Who, The Office and Shameless.
Hennessy is Jen’s stage name and her actual surname is Hayes. She’s one of three talented Hayes sisters from Stockport who’ve been performing in one way or another since they were at primary school. They got the bug very young as part of St Winifred’s School Choir.
Cathryn, Angela and Jennifer have been blessed with beautiful voices and musical ability, all of them playing a variety of instruments.
They made a name for themselves in local pubs and clubs before heading off to university, starting families and following different careers.
Now they’ve decided it’s time to get back on the road and into the studio and they’ve recorded their first album, which is already getting them noticed here and in Nashville.
The album is called Another Man’s Shoes and is a collection of original songs written from personal experiences and influenced by the music they grew up listening to, the traditional music of England and Ireland.
Sensational harmonies enhance the singing and top class international musicians provide the accompaniment.
Now that Jen’s sorted out Tiny Tim and hung up Mrs Cratchit’s shawl, The Hayes Sisters will be appearing at gigs and festivals across the north west before heading out on their tour of the USA.
