Positive mindset

MACC Town defender George Pilkington says it is vital the team get their winning mentality back as they approach the business end of the season.

The Silkmen currently sit seventh in the National League Table, just one point off the play-off spots.

A 1-0 defeat to Halifax Town in their last league match has seen the Silkmen lose ground, with all of the teams above them having games in hand on Macc too.

With that in mind, Pilkington knows how important it is for the team to avoid further blips.

“It was a bad performance against Halifax so we need to move on and not take our eye off the fact we’ve been doing well,” he said. “We can’t let it affect us and we need to just take it one game at a time as we know we have to perform better. Winning is a good mentality to have and we will obviously try and win as many games as we can.

“We’re confident and we have some good players here so we are more than a match for anybody if we are on our game.”

Macc were set to host Truro City in their FA Trophy replay as the Express went to print on Tuesday.

The replay came after the two teams drew 2-2 on Saturday, and Pilkington insisted ahead of the game the players were taking the competition seriously.

“As the manager always says, this is an opportunity to play at Wembley and no player wants to turn that down,” he said. “Our main focus is obviously the league but this gives us a bit of a break and we’ll just keep chipping away.”
