Council HQ is searched
POLICE searched council headquarters as part of an investigation into the awarding of contracts to a company run by the outgoing council leader’s physiotherapist, it has been revealed.
Officers are carrying out a criminal investigation into misconduct in a public office as a result of information received about Cheshire East Council and the awarding of contracts. Now police have confirmed the council’s Westfields head offices at Sandbach were searched just before Christmas.
The investigation centres around the awarding of contracts worth more than £150,000 to Core Fit, which is run by outgoing council leader Michael Jones’s physio Amanda Morris. Coun Jones has resigned as leader blaming in-fighting in the Conservative party. He has always denied any involvement in the issuing of the contracts.
Cheshire East’s internal audit team says it will cooperate fully with the police so they can carry out all lines of inquiry.
