Land­lady as­saulted

A GRIEV­ING woman as­saulted a land­lady af­ter a fu­neral, a court heard.

He­len Kay Green, 47, ver­bally abused and hit Wendy Ann Smith, land­lady of The Swan with Two Necks in Mac­cles­field, when she was asked to leave the pub.

The scuf­fle hap­pened af­ter Green leapt up on the stage where a band were play­ing on De­cem­ber 23.

Green, of West Bond Street, ad­mit­ted as­sault at Mac­cles­field mag­is­trates.

Deb­bie Byrne, pros­e­cut­ing, said: “The de­fen­dant was re­fused any fur­ther al­co­hol due to be­ing too in­tox­i­cated and was asked to leave.

“She re­fused to leave and got up on the stage and started be­ing abu­sive. The de­fen­dant started flail­ing her arms around and hit the land­lady in the face.”

Jenny Fields, de­fend­ing, said Green was ashamed and em­bar­rassed by her be­hav­iour, adding: “She had been to her cousin’s fu­neral, who had been killed in a car crash. It wasn’t an in­ten­tional punch.”

Mag­is­trate fined Green £120 and or­dered her to pay £75 com­pen­sa­tion.
