MEMBERS from Macclesfield Decorative and Fine Arts Society will present parishioners with a record of the furnishings in Sutton St James.

Over the last four years, a team of volunteers from the society has described, measured and annotated the contents of the church in a book which will be a permanent reminder of the artistic heritage it contains.

David Griffiths, Macclesfield DFAS church recording group leader, said: “This includes windows by nationally known makers such as William Morris and co, altar frontals by the Leek School of Embroidery and a font made by a local craftsman who was deaf.

They have unearthed stories of explorers, silk manufacturers and local dignitaries. The presentation is on February 28 at the Sunday Communion Service.
