Primary pupils learn about Islam

PRIMARY school children learned about another religion first hand when a parent came in to give a talk.

The Year 5 and 6 pupils at Prestbury CE Primary School learned all about the five pillars of Islam from Siba Al-Haimus, mother of one of the pupils, as part of a series of talks on different religions.

Headteacher David Capener said: “The children are learning about Islam as part of their Religious Education unit.

“They showed a real interest in the topic and I think it’s a really important faith to understand, especially in our locality.”

“It was great to have Siba come in as she really brought the children’s learning to life, rather than them just reading about the topic in a book.”

Class teacher Hannah Butler said: “It’s good to have the learning first-hand.

“The children are free to ask any questions they like and can also talk about personal experiences they may have had.”
