Team hopes for glory
BOSLEY’S tug of war team has set its sights on winning the national title after the devastating tragedy in the village last summer.
The Bosley Tug of War Club was founded in 1947 and Wood Treatment Ltd started sponsoring the club 10 years later.
After explosions and fire killed four workers at the Bosley wood mill in July, teammates are hoping for an historic win when the National Outdoor Tug of War Championships comes to Macclesfield.
Andy Street, coach, said: “Our club is one of the most well-known teams in tug of war owing to our achievements over many years from the late 1950s.
“We have a young team that is gaining experience so hopefully we will improve on our performances from last year and do well at this year’s national championships.”
The members have always practiced on an area of grass near the site and continue to do so since the tragedy.
Last year the team won bronze at the 2015 National Championships and reached the European Club Championship quarter finals. The team has previously won 50 national outdoor championship titles, 11 European titles and two World titles.
