MACCLESFIELD Boys Boxing Club recently made the trip to world champion Terry Flanagan’s gym in Manchester to spar with some of the top class professional boxers under Steve Maylett’s wings.

It was a brilliant test for Macclesfield, as they prepare for their own spectacular night of amateur boxing at Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Friday in front of a local sell-out crowd.

Although all the kids in the gym have been training hard for the chance to showcase their talents in front of families and friends, it’s essential that the elite boxers get a level of sparring that tests their ability.

The boxers in the Ardwick gym certainly did this and as such all the coaches in the gym thank them for the chance to train with them as Terry prepares to defend his WBO lightweight title against Derry Mathews at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on March 12.
