Frontline pair the plus points for boss
TOWN manager John Askey felt the performance of Jack Sampson was the main positive from his side’s 2-1 defeat to league leaders Forest Green Rovers.
The Silkmen lost more ground in their battle for the National League play-offs after suffering the loss at the New Lawn Stadium.
Sampson gave his side the lead in the game before Forest Green turned things around, but Askey was still pleased with what he saw from the striker.
“I thought Jack Sampson was outstanding. He showed he can be a player at this level,” he said.
“His all-round play of holding the ball and bringing others into play was great. He caused them problems as their two centrehalves had to occupy him for the majority of the game.
“When he went wide he ended up scoring. It was just a good all-round performance. Those who say they think he can’t play need to have a look at the video to realise what a good player he is.
“Reece Styche was a positive too. There were other players that did well but they were the main two.”
Sampson joined Macclesfield in 2015, having also spent time at Bolton Wanderers and Morecambe during his professional career.
