● Stewart MortonCollings: What’s needed is more investment in independent outlets, artists, restaurants, etc. A multiplex cinema won’t help the town centre one bit. People will come, but won’t stick around after their film. ● Carol Capper: We need more independent retailers and not to become the same as most other towns. Make us different to attract visitors. ● Jonathan Baguley: I’ve been saying this for over a decade. Macclesfield’s strength is its character and history. ● Julie Hatt: I like our local cinema, no it isn’t huge but it fits with the town and we need to diversify to get people to come into town. If we are the same as every other town then why would people make an effort? ● Karen Knight: I believe if there is a reason for people to come into the town then yes they will have a walk and look at the local shops. Let’s embrace the change. Let’s be honest, it is going down hill fast. We need to do something to keep Macclesfield alive, so I am a big yes. ● Josh Sherratt: This town may be filled with history and I adore that but it is also dying, we need to make new memories for this town. This will be the best thing to put our town back on the map. ● Martyn Wood: We are a market town, let’s focus on small businesses and the markets and let the larger ones have the retail parks if necessary. ● Jonathan White: Quick! Build it! The car park looks terrible and is on the main road through the town centre. A scheme like this would improve the look of the town and would attract further investment. Fear and a misplaced sense of ‘heritage’, is stopping things from happening in the town. ● Meg Unwin: I’d love for something like this to be built I just don’t ever think it’ll happen in Macc! ● Andy Ellis: Huddersfield was totally transformed by a similar scheme to revitalise a run down part of a dreary town centre. It faced objections by locals but it’s been such a roaring success that it’s now being extended. ● Val Pownall: That car park looks so depressing and I think it’s the ideal spot where it’s accessible to all. It’s the 21st century. Much as I love my heritage we also have to consider the future. ● Graham Brinkhurst: Making it even more difficult to find anywhere to park close to the banks and shops really will be the final nail in the coffin for the town centre and what shops still remain. ● Keith Townley: This is great news for Macclesfield. If people actually opened their eyes to the wonderful surroundings, great restaurants, night life and independent shops in the town they’d realise we’re heading in the right direction. ● Kore Lisa Mackness: Looks hideous! Where will we park? And what will happen to us who live in the town centre? ● Joe Wolverson: Much better to encourage this within the town than see it built out of town. But people need to park somewhere. Where? ● Paul Dunlevy: Build it asap. The town is already on life support. ● Lesley Anne Baxendale: Too much glass and too much strolling-about space. This is Macclesfield, not the Riviera.
