Solicitor marks ‘dream’ 10 years
ALAW firm which started in the founder’s dining room is celebrating 10 years in business.
Nick Stratford set up Stratford Solicitors in 2006 in a bid to spend more time with his twin son and daughter, then seven.
He ran it from his home in Prestbury for 18 months, before renting premises in which to see clients for another 18 months, and finally moving into the firm’s current home on London Road, Poynton, in 2009.
Nick, 48, who is now the managing director of Stratford Solicitors, explained: “I used to work in the centre of Manchester, but I was always home late and I didn’t see my family enough.
“I wanted to see more of my kids, so I set up my own firm from home.
“I started out in my dining room, just me.
“Then I took on a trainee solicitor called Lauren Sumner, and she’s been with the company ever since.
“Once people come, they seem to stay.”
The firm now employs six solicitors, a trainee solicitor, a trainee legal executive, and support staff, and Nick said ‘it has been a dream ride’.
“We do every area of law other than criminal,” he added. “It’s not that we are better than any other law firm, but we offer a special service, as we work Saturdays and do evening visits
“Clients seem to stick with us. Every year we have grown, even through the recession, and we get a lot of local clients.
“People know we are here and trust us.”
Nick was thrilled to celebrate the firm’s 10th anniversary on Saturday, February 6.
To mark the occasion, the staff planned a celebratory lunch, with a bigger celebration to follow.
Nick explained: “I asked what everyone wanted to do and they said ‘let’s come into work, spend some time together’.
“It’s a Saturday, but we all wanted to be here, and maybe go for lunch together to celebrate.
“They are also talking about going go-karting at a later date. If that’s what everyone wants to do, we’ll do that. I am super proud, the business is my pride and joy. It sounds sad, but I actually look forward to coming into work. We all know each other so well now, it’s more like a family here than colleagues.”
